Learning and Academic Advising
The academic advising program at Jamestown College is designed to assist you with developing educational plans that are compatible with your goals. Each incoming first-year student is assigned a faculty adviser. This faculty member will be available to answer any questions you have about your academic program during your first semester and to help you plan your courses for the following semester.
First-year students are also registered for Journey 101. This course includes:
- sessions to assist you in understanding the general education requirements
- determining the proper sequencing of courses for majors/minors
- planning your specific course schedule
Remember, academic advising is essential in helping you to meet your educational objectives.
Are you having trouble with a class? The Learning and Academic Advising Center is here to help. Peer tutors are specially trained to assist you in most subject areas. Peer tutoring is free of charge. The Center offers the following advising services:
- assists with majors/minors evaluation
- assists with outlining your provisional schedule prior to meeting with your adviser
- provides worksheets for general education requirements
- provides worksheets for specific major/minor requirements
Students experiencing academic difficulty may consult with the Center’s director, Myra Watts. She will help you develop a plan to help you achieve your academic goals. The Center also provides assistance with reading skills, study skills, and time management.
