JC Department of Nursing
Jamestown College offers a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in nursing, a program that incorporates all the requirements for a nursing major plus liberal arts courses. Professional nurses interact with a variety of individuals and therefore must have a broad understanding of the world in which they live, in addition to excellent technical skills. Classes in the fine arts, humanities, and social and physical sciences help prepare the graduate to relate to clients and co-workers as holistic and culturally diverse individuals.
The nursing program at Jamestown College offers a four-year baccalaureate degree that focuses on the nursing major during the sophomore, junior, and senior years. Clinical experiences provide "hands-on" education through practice opportunities in a variety of settings, including the Jamestown Hospital, the North Dakota State Hospital, the Anne Carlsen Center for Children, the James River Correctional Center, client's homes, rural clinics, the Human Services Center, local nursing homes, and MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. As seniors, students are allowed to participate in other unique and individually tailored clinical experiences.
The four-year baccalaureate nursing program at Jamestown College maintains accreditation by both the North Dakota Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.

Declaration of Major
Students planning to apply to the nursing program are encouraged to declare a nursing major in the freshman year. Declared students receive important communication from the Department of Nursing.
Nursing Students Association
The Nursing Students Association (NSA) is a national, state, and local organization dedicated to preparing nursing students for leadership roles within the nursing profession. The organization is open to any nursing major and usually meets once a month to plan and carry out many activities. Activities include educational events, community service health projects, and fun activities such as Christmas and Halloween parties. In addition, members from the local level have the opportunity to run for state board positions and offices. Jamestown College has always had a strong local chapter and has had significant leadership involvement on the state level. This organization is a fun way to learn, to develop leadership skills, and to meet your future colleagues in the nursing profession.
