 Religion & Philosophy Department

Mission Statement

The mission of our department is to promote the significance of Christian faith and thought for all areas of life and to provide students with a sound educational foundation in the fields of religion and philosophy.

Why this major?

Today many college students want a major that will help them to earn a good living. Religion-Philosophy emphasizes reading and writing skills, analytical ability, and the nature of human relationships to each other and to God. Some students choose Religion-Philosophy to prepare for a specific vocation such as minister, youth pastor, campus chaplain, director of Christian education, missionary, or a staff position with a Christian service organization. Our major also prepares one for graduate study in a number of fields, including Scripture, theology, philosophy, law and ethics. Other students choose Religion-Philosophy for their own personal interest. The college years are often one of the few times in life when one has the opportunity to study those things that will help you to become a more mature and fulfilled person. Why not take a major/minor in Religion-Philosophy along with your other course of study in order to help you grow in your understanding of yourself, others, the world and God?
