Admission Requirements and Placement Testing |
| |
|
| |
| At Jamestown College we are able to 'look beyond what's on paper' and consider each applicant individually. At times there are circumstances that affect an applicant's grade point average or aptitude test scores that we need to consider as we review the application. As a general rule our admission requirements are: |
| |
- Minimum GPA of 2.5* on a 4.0 scale and ACT composite of 18 (or SAT of 850)
Or
- Minimum GPA of 2.75* on a 4.0 scale and an ACT composite of 17 (or SAT of 810)
*We look closely at the courses the student has taken to ensure that s/he has taken college preparatory coursework.
- We do not currently require the writing component of the ACT or SAT.
- Unit Requirements: Technically, we do not have specific unit requirements. We do, however, encourage students to fulfill state graduation requirements.
|
| If students do not meet these admission requirements, they may be considered for conditional admission. This limits the number of credits they are able to take their first semester and requires them to take a writing lab with their English course. |
| |
| Regarding placement testing, we do not use standardized aptitude test scores or institutionally administered placement exams to determine placement for new, incoming students. However, students who take calculus or college algebra will be given an exam during orientation to ensure that they are ready for the course. If the exam indicates that they are not, they will need to successfully complete remedial coursework prior to taking that course. |
