| A healthy learning environment includes Jamestown College's exceptional facilities and equipment. You will gain access to state-of-the art facilities currently in use at the country's labs, businesses and communities. |
LibraryTake Raugust Library, for example. It houses more than 100,000 volumes and 450 journals. A member of ODIN (Online Dakota Information Network), Raugust Library offers students on-line access to numerous other research libraries and consortia in three states. Through ODIN, students and faculty can access more than 2.5 million volumes and 28,000 periodicals, as well as links to OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) which provides access to 37 million items around the world! Computer The central computing systems at the college are connected via a fiber-optic network with IBM-compatible PCs. The system provides the entire campus with a direct link to the Internet and intranet. Students can access grade information and register for courses on-line, projection systems are installed in all classrooms to facilitate communication and a storage-area-network (SAN) is installed to provide central storage and access of data for all faculty, staff and students. The SAN, when coupled with our remote terminal servers, allows access to personal and classroom information from any computer worldwide. Computers, Internet-access and printers in residence halls permit 24-hour access to library and campus resources. Student-owned computers can also be connected to the campus network in all dorm rooms. A Microsoft Campus Agreement allows students to access and use common software on college and personally owned computers. Graduating students are given a free license to continue using MS Office after graduation. More than 130 IBM-compatible PCs are located in 7 computer labs on campus. Resources also include laser and color printers, scanners and digital cameras. |
ArtsHistoric Voorhees Chapel hosts chapel services, convocations, concerts, recitals and other campus events. Theater productions occur in the college's Reiland Fine Arts Center, an brand new, state-of-the-art theater which hosts a spring and fall production as well as several student theater projects. Student art galleries can be found in the Raugust Library Commons and in the Reiland Fine Arts Center Lobby. Science Orlady Hall, which houses the sciences at Jamestown College, recently underwent a nearly $500,000 renovation of its biology and chemistry laboratories. In addition to the renovation, the departments purchased additional equipment worth more than $100,000. A recent $1 million bequest from an alumnus, Melvin Arnold, assures the strong tradition in the sciences to continue long into the future. Laboratory facilities, as well as the instructors, are available to students at times other than the scheduled lab sessions. Satisfied parent sends thanks "My daughter and I just returned from a visit to your campus. My purpose in writing is to offer my compliments on two fronts. First, campus looks beautiful and alive...the facilities are clearly competitive with any of the 30+ private colleges in my state. Second, (one of) your admission counselors took several hours out of her day to spend time with (my daughter) and made arrangements that provided her with a good overview of what life at Jamestown College would be like. You have top-notch professionals. Thanks." |
