 New Student Orientation Checklist

  • Attend new student orientation Sunday Jan. 7th at 5:00 in Westminster Hall.
  • If you are living on campus. Check in with the Residence Director in your residence hall when you arrive on campus. You will receive your key(s), for your room and the outside door of your building. You can move in between 12:00 and 4:00 on Sunday Dec. 7th. The first meal served is breakfast on Monday, Jan. 8th.
  • The college does not provide storage in the residence halls for furniture from the rooms or boxes and suitcases. The items in the rooms – beds, dressers, desks, etc.—must remain in the room.
  • On Monday, Dec. 8th, please stop by the post office in Lyngstad to pick up your mailbox key. All students are required to have a mailbox to receive on-campus communications. If you live off campus, please give your address and phone number to Mike Woodley (Woodley@jc.edu) in the Registrar’s Office.
  • Your bill will be sent out the end of December. For your convenience, you may wish to consider sending your payment by mail as there is often a waiting line at the Business Office the first few days of semester. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the Business Office (701-252-3467, X5561). On Monday Jan 8th, the Business Office will be available in Westminster Hall.
  • Bring your class schedule to campus, as you will need it to buy books. The bookstore will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday (4th-6th) from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM and Sunday the 7th from noon until 4:00.
  • Your photo for your ID will be taken at the Orientation. Please bring your class schedule so you will have your student ID number.
  • Federal privacy laws prohibit the college from releasing grades to parents unless a grade release form is signed by the student. If you have not completed this form, please stop by the Registrar’s Office in Taber Hall to do so.
  • You will receive your e-mail account at the orientation. If you do not attend the orientation you can set up your account at Sorkness Hall Room 105 between 8 AM and 5 PM after Jan. 8th. You will need this account to receive college communication.
  • If you are to receive any federal loans you must complete Loan Entrance Counseling. If you have not completed the counseling, you must contact the Financial Aid Office to request instructions for completion on-line.
  • If you will have employment on campus, you will need to bring your original social security card and a picture ID to the Financial Aid Office before you begin work.
  • There is no charge for parking on campus and no parking permit is required.
