didn't come to Jamestown College with many expectations in the fall of 1982. If she
would have though, they most likely would have been fulfilled. Lloyd, who grew up in
Finley, North Dakota and transferred to Jamestown College after one year at the University
of North Dakota, ran away with just about every accomplishment imaginable in cross country
and track and field from 1983-87. Her cross country successes include WACND
individual champion in 1984 and second in NAIA District 12. She finished 98th in the
1983 national meet and 32nd in 1984. By '84, she had reached 10th place on the
Jimmie all-time scoring list in only two seasons and was named Jamestown's MVP that year.
But it was on the track where Lloyd made her mark, winning NAIA national
championships in the outdoor 800 meter run in 1985 and the outdoor 1500 meter run in
1986. That 1500 meter performance came in a NAIA national record time of 4:23.50.
"I didn't come with a lot of expectations," Lloyd said "I
didn't just burst onto the scene - some people do. Everything was new to me."
Like some feats that don't go down in record books. One example is breaking
the 2:20 barrier in the half-mile. Another is the first time she placed at a
national meet. "That was something that in a million years I never, never
expected," she said. Lloyd was a nine-time NAIA All-American and four-time NAIA
Academic All-American. When she finished her college career, Teresa held 15 school
records in indoor and outdoor track and field, nine of which she still held on the day of
her induction. Included in Teresa's school records is the 800 meter run mark of
2:07.26. Lloyd led the Jimmies to their highest NAIA team place in 1985 when
they were seventh behind her first and second place finishes. Lloyd was the leader
of Jimmie championship teams during her years of competition, taking first place finishes
in five events in the NDCAC outdoor track & field meet in both her junior and senior
seasons. Teresa graduated from Jamestown College in 1987 with a degree
in Elementary Education. |
