Connecting Through VPN

• Click Start and find "My Network Places"
• Right Click on "My Network Places" and select Properties
• In the new window click on "Create New Connection
  • On the new connection wizard click Next - Sample
  • Select "Connect to the network at my workplace" click Next - Sample
  • Select "Virtual Private Network connection" click Next - Sample
  • In the text box type JC and then click Next - Sample
  • In the text box type vpn.jc.edu and then click Next - Sample
  • Select "My use only" click Next - Sample
  • Put a check mark in the box for "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" - Sample
  • Click Finish
  • Right Click on the new JC connection you just created
  • Click on properties
  • Click on the Networking Tab
  • Highlight TCP/IP - Click the Properties button
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network"
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "OK"
• A new window titled Connect JC will appear on your screen.
  • For username enter your JC username that you use for logging into machines and email
  • For password enter your JC password that you use for logging into machines and email
  • Click Connect
• After a few seconds you should see a new icon in the lower right next to your clock, this is to let you know that you are connected to the college network.
• To disconnect from the college network right click on the icon in the lower right and select "Disconnect".
• To reconnect to the JC network double click on the JC icon on your desktop

 Windows 7 / Vista VPN Instructions

• Right click on the network icon down by the system clock and choose "Network and Sharing Center". (It will look like 2 computer screens on top of each other.)
• Click “Set up a connection or network” on the left side of the window.
• Scroll down and select “Connect to a workplace” and click “Next”.
• Select “Use my Internet connection (VPN)”.
• In the “Internet address” box, enter “vpn.jc.edu”.
• In the “Destination name” box, enter “JC”.
• Check the box for “Don't connect now' just set it up so I can connect later”.
• Click “Next”.
• Enter your User Name and Password and enter “JC” as the Domain.
• Click ”Create”.
• Click ”Connect now”.
• Choose “Home” or ”Work” for the location type.

To disconnect from the VPN

• Right click on the network icon down by the system clock.
• Hover over “Disconnect from” and choose your VPN connection.

To reconnect to the VPN

• Right click on the network icon down by the system clock and choose “Connect to a network”.
• Choose your VPN connection and click ”Connect”.
• Enter your User Name and Password and enter “JC” as the Domain.
• Click “Connect”.
