Do you have a passion for sharing what you have learned? Would you like to play a role in shaping the character of future leaders? If so, we have just the opportunity for you!

Jamestown College's new Character in Leadership program begins in the Fall of 2006. We plan to bring area leaders like you into direct contact with our students in a number of different ways. If one or more of the ways outlined on this page catches your attention, please respond.

By working together, we can mold a new generation of leaders committed to serving the common good.

Your involvement will benefit students in a number of ways.

Class Presenter
Make a presentation in the basic leadership course (first semester) or the leadership seminar (second semester) on issues important to you. Community leaders will be invited to make individual and/or panel presentations based on their own experiences. Guest lecturers will be sought for other courses in the future.

Conference Planner
Assist faculty and staff in planning an annual fall conference. This might include finding keynote speakers, planning workshops, publicizing the event, etc. It might also include leading a break-out session.

Retreat Leader/Speaker
Participate in the fall retreat. Students will travel to an off campus site for a weekend experience. The purpose of the retreat is to create some significant bonding in the leadership class.

Group Service Projects in the Community
Help students plan, execute and assess a project that benefits the larger community. As a community leader, your guidance is essential to ensure that the projects are truly useful and make a lasting contribution.

Advisory Board Member
Serve with other community leaders on a board that advises the Character in Leadership program. This board will meet regularly to facilitate communication between the college and community organizations.

Guide and Mentor
Befriend and give guidance to students in the program. Initially your relationship with a student would be to serve as a role model and to be available for conversations around shared interests. You could also become a mentor and, at the end of a student's junior year, assist the student in developing a future action plan.

Job Shadowing
Invite students to visit your business or organization and observe the day to day operations and interactions with your customers or clients.

In-House Training
Invite students to participate in special training opportunities for your employees or volunteers in areas such as diversity training, communication skills, mentoring, team-building, etc.

Internship Supervisor
Provide opportunities for students to work under your supervision. Students can work as interns in businesses, non-profit organizations, or local government.

Shared Funding
Partner with the College to share funding for special events or projects. This pooling of resources allows us to do more than either of us could accomplish alone. Such collaboration would strengthen the ties between the college and the wider community.
