The emphasis on ethics and character refers to a consideration of the moral questions embedded in engagement with the world. How does one provide guidance to others while respecting their individuality, equality, and moral worth? How does one distinguish between worthy and unworthy projects? How does one use power while resisting its blandishments? How does one serve others so that their needs are primary?

The emphasis on leadership refers to the types of training and experiences that help one effectively use organizational and personal resources to guide others and attain goals. How does one motivate others? How does one effectively delegate authority? How does one organize the logistics of a project? How does one organize meetings so that decisions are made? How does one implement a plan?
