Melvin R. Arnold Scholarships awarded
Jamestown College has awarded the Melvin R. Arnold Scholarship to two high school seniors.
Coltin Huus, Enderlin, and Nicholas Adams, Sauk Centre, Minn., were selected from high school seniors participating in an on-campus interview and examination process in November. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 over four years.
Huus is the son of Jeff and Kristin Huus. At Enderlin Area High School, he has been active in band, choir, drama, National Honor Society, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, mathematics competitions, Student Council, baseball, basketball and track. He was named Homecoming King in 2012 and has also been active in his church. He plans to major in pre-medicine at Jamestown College.
Adams is the son of Jeffery and Mary Adams. At Sauk Centre High School, he has been active in basketball, baseball, football, choir and musical. He has served as a Youth Service Helper and as a Student/Community Liaison. He plans to major in pre-medicine at Jamestown College and play basketball for the Jimmies.
Recipients of the Melvin R. Arnold Scholarship must major in either biochemistry or chemistry at Jamestown College, or minor in chemistry along with a major in biology, mathematics or a pre-professional science area.
Melvin R. Arnold, a 1938 graduate of Jamestown College, spent his career as an international consultant in catalysis and synthetic fuels. He expressed pride in all Jamestown College students and was a significant donor to the College, establishing an annual chemistry scholarship in 1982. Through his estate, the Melvin R. Arnold Scholarship was established, with the first awards taking place during the 1997-98 academic year.
