Hit musical 'Titanic' sets sail Nov. 3-5
Jamestown College Theatre will honor the upcoming 100th anniversary of the tragedy of Titanic as it opens its season with the Tony Award-winning musical depicting the grand ocean liner’s doomed voyage.
“Titanic,” with lyrics and music by Maury Yeston and story and book by Peter Stone, runs Nov. 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium.
Unison Bank will sponsor the Friday performance of "Titanic." The Friends of the Fine Arts will host a reception during intermission of Friday's performance.
“This is a powerful and touching depiction of the doomed voyage that changed history,” says director Mike McIntyre. “This is the perfect year for us to stage the show as April 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of the disaster. The anniversary will be marked around the world in numerous ways, and, for us, this musical does it in a very impressive way. The sinking of the majestic ship had such impact that society, communication, transportation and industry were all permanently changed by it.”
Tickets are $10 and can be reserved through the Box Office. Call (701) 252-3467 ext. 2435, send e-mail to tickets@jc.edu, or visit the Jamestown College web site, www.jc.edu and click on “Community” and “Reiland Box Office.” The Box Office is located in room 130 of the Reiland Fine Arts Center. Box Office hours are 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding school breaks.
The season continues Feb. 2-4 with “Belles” by Mark Dunn. Through a succession of endearingly funny phone calls, six sisters reconnect.
“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” by Jess Winfield, Adam Long, and Daniel Singer runs Feb. 15-18. Each of Shakespeare’s plays gets roasted by three actors in a hilarious, fast-paced comedy.
The season concludes April 19-21 with “The Crucible,” Arthur Miller’s classic tale of the paranoia and hysteria of the Salem witch trials.
Season tickets are available for $25 and include admission to all four productions. Requests for season tickets can be made through the Box Office.
