The Linguistic Circle, founded in 1959, welcomes all persons interested in language, and
particularly "lovers of discourse". The founders of the Circle intended it as an
organization devoted to research and intellectual enhancement. The group gets together
each year near the end of October, either in North Dakota or Winnipeg (the 1999 meeting
will be held in Grand Forks). The program normally includes papers on a wide range of
literary and linguistic topics. -- submitted by LCMND secretary Constance Cartmill
