In partnership with the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the University of Colorado-Denver, the Center for Excellence in Business and the Department of Business, Accounting, and Economics at Jamestown College conduct an annual summer study tour of China. This joint field study program consists of an intensive, 2-week experience in Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai.
Although the program is not required, this field study will satisfy degree requirements in the Economics, General Management, and Global Business Concentrations in the Business Administration Major.
Students may also elect to participate in the field study for no credit by auditing the Busn/Econ 493 course. Contact the Registrar's Office for details.
In addition to business, accounting, and economics students, those pursuing programs of study in history, political science, international studies, and/or foreign languages will find the field study extremely valuable. |

The Program |
|
| |
 |
The purpose of the "Window on China" international study tour is to introduce students to the historical, cultural, social, economic, and political contexts for doing business in China today and to provide perspectives on U.S.-China political, economic, and business relations.
During the tour, classes are held at the CU-Denver International College in Beijing (China Agriculture University campus). The 2-week intensive field study in Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai, with a visit to Suzhou, provides students with an introduction to Chinese history and an overview of modern China's business, political, and economic environments.
Students learn through a combination of lectures by CU-Denver and Jamestown College faculty, guest lectures, briefings from U.S. embassy and consulate officials, field trips to various Chinese businesses, and seminars with experts on each day's topics.
In addition, the field study tour includes visits to many historical and cultural sites in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Suzhou. |

Requirements |
|
| |
Students participate in the program by registering for (or auditing) either Busn 493 or Econ 493 Field Study in Emerging Economies: Window on China. During the spring semester, students engage in research and discussions on the historical, political, economic, social, and cultural contexts for doing business in China. The course then culminates with the study tour, which usually takes place during the month of May.
During the field study, students are required to attend all lectures and field trips, participate in class discussions, and complete the assigned readings.
Students who register for the course with a Busn designation are required to write an analytical paper on a topic pertaining to global business in China whereas those who register with an Econ designation must write a similar paper on some aspect of or issue pertaining to the emerging Chinese economy. Students must submit their papers within two months of their return to the U.S. Students who audit the course are exempted from the paper. |
