The Center for Excellence in Business and the Department of Business, Accounting, and Economics at Jamestown College conduct an annual summer study tour of various member countries of the European Union. Currently, the study tour program, known as "Window on the European Union," consists of an intensive, 2-week experience in the Czech Republic and Germany.
Although the program is not required, the study tour will satisfy degree requirements in the Economics, General Management, and Global Business Concentrations in the Business Administration Major.
Students may also elect to participate in the study tour for no credit by auditing the Busn/Econ 494 course. Contact the Registrar's Office for details.
In addition to business, accounting, and economics students, those pursuing programs of study in history, political science, international studies, and/or foreign languages will find the study tour extremely valuable. |

The Program |
|
| |
 |
The purpose of the "Window on the European Union" international study tour is to introduce students to the historical, cultural, social, economic, and political environments that impact upon business in the European Union and to provide perspectives on U.S.-EU political and economic relations. The 16-day intensive field study provides students with an introduction to the current economy of and contemporary business practices in the European Union.
Students learn through a combination of visits to a variety of companies, lectures by tour faculty, guest lectures from European academic experts, and briefings from management executives.
In addition, the study tour includes visits to many historical and cultural sites in Europe. |

Requirements |
|
| |
Students participate in the program by registering for (or auditing) either Busn 494 or Econ 494 Field Study in Global Economies: Window on the European Union. During the spring semester, students engage in research and discussions on the historical, political, economic, social, and cultural contexts for doing business in the European Union. The course then culminates with the study tour, which usually takes place during the month of June.
During the study tour, students are required to attend all lectures and field trips, participate in class discussions, and complete the assigned readings.
Students who register for the course with a Busn designation are required to write an analytical paper on a topic pertaining to global business in the European Union whereas those who register with an Econ designation must write a similar paper on some aspect of or issue pertaining to the global EU economy. Students must submit their papers within two months of their return to the U.S. Students who audit the course are exempted from the paper.
