Jimmies have strong outing

By Scott Throlson The Jamestown Sun

Erica Mois placed in five events to lead Jamestown College at the Concordia Twilight track meet Tuesday in Moorhead, Minn.

Mois helped the Jimmie women to a third-place finish with 142.3 points. Concordia won the title with 148.5 and North Dakota State was second with 146.

“It was a real good meet for us,” said Jimmie women’s coach Jim Clark. “It was raining, but it was light enough that it never bothered us. And it was a day with no wind which was good for the kids running on the track.”

Mois was one of three JC athletes to take individual titles, winning the 200 in 26.3 seconds. She also combined with Marrie Johnson, Carma Hackey and Toni Romero to lead the 400 relay team to a first-place time (51.37).

Mois also placed second in the 100 (12.9), second with a national-qualifying mark in the long jump (18-3 1/4) and third with a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump (36-4 1/2).

Hackey also won the 400 (1:03.67).

Maurer placed second with a personal record 4:54.28 in the 1500 and ran one of her best time in the 800 (2:25.0), placing fourth.

Johnson ran on the winning 400 relay and also placed third in the 100 (13.14), fourth in the 200 (27.61) and seventh in the pole vault (8-6).

Kari Pankow placed second in the high jump (4-11 3/4) and in the javelin with a PR of 123-2.

Melanie Holmes finished second in the 5,000 in a PR of 19:50.94. Teammates Jennifer Tollefsrud (5:06.33) and Erin Ellmaker (5:14.56) also ran PRs in placing third and fifth, respectively.

“All our distance runners had good days, which was good to see,” said Clark.

The Jimmie men finished with 193 points, good for second place behind North Dakota State’s 203.

Five individuals earned titles for the Jimmies, along with the 1600 meter relay team.

Phill Stokkeland ran 15.87 to take the title in the 110 hurdles and also placed third in the 400 hurdles (57.31.).

Joe Simon won the 800 (1:55.04) and Ryun Hess took the 1,500 (3:57.94).

Levi Webb won the 5,000 in 16:43.88 and placed seventh in the 800 (2:00.46).

“There was no wind at all, the temp was in the 50s ... that’s great for your middle distance and distance runners.,” said JC men’s coach Josh Roberts.

Along with Simon’s victory in the 800, Joe Makoutz (1:57.99) finished fifth, Levi Webb (2:00.48) seventh and Phil Nesbitt (2:00.82) eighth. All four ran personal best times.

“That was good improvement for all of them,” Roberts said.

Porfioro Gonzalez finished second in the shot put (48-0 1/4) and seventh in the hammer (126-11) on a tough day for the throwers with the conditions.

Sean Iverson placed second in the 400 hurdles (57.1) and Andy Soderberg was second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:01.89).

“Andy’s come a long way in the steeplechase,” Roberts said.

Roberts likes the way his team is performing.

“The guys are starting top come around and perform at the right time,” Roberts said. “Conference is just around the corner. We’re coming into form at the right time.”

The Jimmies host the Al Cassell Relays on Saturday at Rollie Greeno Field.
