Nayes, Mois top strong JC effort
Monday, January 31, 2005

By Scott Throlson The Jamestown Sun

Lisa Nayes and Erica Mois led the way for another strong indoor meet for the Jamestown College women’s track team.

Nayes led a 1-2-3 sweep and qualified for the NAIA national indoor meet in the 3000 meters at the Concordia Cobber Duals on Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.

Nayes turned in a qualifying time of 10:30.33. Teammates Cheri Ewert (10:45.67) and Erin Ellmaker (10:58.8) finished right behind her in the 3000. Ewert’s time was a provisional qualifying mark, and Ellmaker’s was a personal best.

“Lisa, Cheri and Erin all ran as well as they ever have,” said Jimmies coach Jim Clark. “They worked together for as long as they could and helped each other to good times.”

Mois, who last week became the school’s all-time scoring leader, won four events once again.

She won the long jump (18-5 1/4) and triple jump (37-8 1/2, an NAIA qualifying leap), along with the 55 meter dash (7.42) and the 800 relay (1:49.16).

It was also a good day for Laura White, who improved her national-qualifying mark in the shot put with a winning throw of 41-8 1/2.

Mois and Alissa Andrus (17-11 1/2) finished 1-2 in the long jump for the third straight meet.

Freshman Sarah Hennek was part of the winning 800 relay team, helped the 1600 relay to a second-place time and added individual finishes in the 400 (second, 1:02.82) and the 200 (third, 27.9).

Sophomore Liz McCarty won the high jump (5-1) along with a third in the triple jump (31-6 1/2) and a fifth in the long jump (16-8 3/4).

Michel Maurer finished a strong second in the 800 (2:24.99), getting nipped at the tape by Jen St. John of Concordia (2:24.9).

The Jimmies compete in the Concordia Open on Saturday.
